What is Acupuncture?

Practiced for more than 2000 years in the Far East to restore, promote and maintain good health. The ancient Chinese made a remarkable discovery that a tiny needle placed outside the body can have an extraordinary effect on the inside of the body.

The aim of Acupuncture is to stimulate the body's own healing system and restore its natural balance, this is accomplished by inserting very fine needles the thickness of a hair into specific locations, aiming the treatment not only at the symptoms but also at the root of the condition.

How Does it Work?

Oriental Perspective

By inserting needles at specific areas known as acupuncture points along meridians or pathways of the body, effects the bodies energy system known in Chinese medicine as Qi (pronounced Chee). These points have a specific function which are associated with the internal organs. These regulate the flow of Qi and Blood, Yin and Yang thus tonifying deficiency and clearing excess, Re-balancing the body and restoring health from illness or supporting well being,

Western Perspective

Stimulation of the peripheral nerves in the skin causes a cascade of physiological changes. Acupuncture stimulates chemicals, hormones and neurotransmitters which are released by the brain and organs to influence the self regulating systems of the body. Used primarily in th west for pain relief it increases the body's natural pain killers releasing endorphin and serotonin in the pathways of spinal cord and brain.

How can it help me?

Acupuncture is a tried and tested form of health care and is used in many countries alongside Western medicine. Treatment can be directed at a specific condition, or general feelings of ill health.Traditional acupuncture focuses on the root of the condition as well as the symptom and thanks to modern clinical research is beginning to proven how effective it can be, proving what the Chinese have known for thousands of years that it can be effective for a number of condition that don't respond well to conventional medicine. As Acupuncture grows in the West to maintain wellbeing more  medical trials are planned and continues to be tested. The world health organisation (Who) lists numerous conditions in which Acupuncture to be effective in clinical trails.

Spirit Acupuncture practices various styles or methods to facilitate a higher success rate. Combining Tan/Tung method with Abdominal, Scalp and Ear acupuncture, plus utilising the Western approach of Trigger point and E stim with Traditional Chinese medicine to diagnose the condition and origin of the problem.
